Ruby Rhod is one of my favorite characters in sci-fi ever because he is Luc Besson’s vision of the hetero sex symbol of the future: a flamboyant, emotionally labile man who wears skin-tight leopard print or decks himself in roses, a man who accessorizes with big jewelry and dabbles in cosmetics. And the ladies love him. Everything about him screams “gay” according to our stereotypes, but he’s portrayed as a 100% straight sexual dynamo.
Besson is one of the few directors I’ve seen who actually recognizes that our ideas of sexuality and gender performance might have changed drastically in the future.
He also has one of the most jarring entrances in a movie. Like the entire movie screeches to a halt because he bursts onto the scene well into the second act and it’s so strange and arresting and Bruce Willis is just like “what the fuck is even going on anymore?”
It’s p. great.
Reblogging for one of the most fabulous characters ever.
Bzzzzz!, “SUPER GREEN!”, and “He’s hotter than hot! He’s hot hot hot!” are some phrases that get thrown around here a lot.
Also Besson’s not flawless when it comes to like… some thematic issues but I am totally feeling this post.

i always get situationism and stuckism confused, on account of one of them is a pompous self-important fraud which is probably the saddest excuse for radicalism in human history and the other is… huh, wait a minute

uhmm please don’t confuse something that literally is of no importance with something that at least came up with some decent concepts.
yeah i like pinhole cameras too
like even if the situationists ONLY came up with the concept of derive that is obviously better than getting angry because you are doing really shitty paintings and don’t understand anything that art has done in like two centuries.

BREAKING NEWS: Yahoo! Inc. - recently after their $1.1 million purchase of the website - officially announce plans to ban “fandom”-related content on the blogging website Tumblr.com.
“Copyright laws on “fandom” content - things pertaining to popular TV shows, movies, games and books - should be much stricter,” Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer claims. “A lot of the animated GIFs, screen-caps and videos hosted on the website are in direct violation of copyright laws which could lead to the site’s eventual take-down unless proper action is immediately taken. This especially pertains to popular television shows such as Merlock, One Discretion, The Office, Lost, Evangelion and more”
